PROGRAM: Boardwalks

DIRECTIONS: By car: From Hwy 1 westbound, take Exit 18.  Left on Lonsdale Ave.  Right on West Esplanade. Left on Chesterfield Ave. Left on Carrie Cates Ct. Right into ICBC parkade – unmarked (pay parking available on weekends & holidays). To walk from parkade:  Right on Rogers Ave.  Right on Carrie Cates Ct. Left on Chesterfield Pl (no sign).  Left before fence, passing between 4 short black posts. By transit: From Waterfront Station, take SeaBus. Walk 2 blocks west, keeping harbour on left. Head towards the big gazebo by the pier.

INFORMATION: There are five routes:

 

  1. Edgemont Village 10k (rating 2B): Walk along the Spirit Trail, then through Mosquito Creek Park to Edgemont Village, a quaint little area with one-of-a-kind retail stores and a vibrant community. You might feel like you are in a mountain resort as Grouse Mountain is not far away. Then down to a 1950’s cabin and pond where a number of shows, including the Virgin River series, were filmed. Next comes Murdo Frazer Pitch & Putt, Heywood Park, Pemberton Heights and back to Mosquito Creek Park. Don’t miss this walk! Lots to explore.
  2. Mosquito Creek 6k, 10k & 11k (rating 2B): Walk starts from Goldsworthy Pier, walk along the Spirit Trail by the scenic waterfront with beautiful floating homes. We then head north and follow Mosquito Creek and the Trans Canada Trail through forested areas uphill to Montroyal underpass and then retrace our steps to go back. Enjoy this walk with a mix of boardwalks, nature and urban trails. The 6k route will go until Hwy #1 underpass.
  3. Spirit Trail East – Lynn Creek 5k & 10k (rating 2B): Walk the Spirit Trail east of Lonsdale Quay that will take you to Moodyville Park and Park & Tilford Gardens, onwards to a trail along Lynn Creek to Bridgman Park, then to Sunrise Park. Besides admiring the nature around you, take in the spectacular view of Vancouver city across Burrard Inlet as you pass Lonsdale Quay and the Shipyards. Check out the history of the “Benjamin Sewall” as you pass by the grain elevators.
  4. Spirit Trail West – Mahon Park 6k &10k (rating 3B): This walk will take you on forest trails in a few parks surrounded by creeks – Mahon Park, Mosquito Creek Park, Heywood Park and Lower MacKay Creek Park. Immerse yourself amongst the trees and the sound of water, in particular the roaring creeks on rainy days! Return via Spirit Trail along the scenic waterfront with spectacular views of the water and city across the Burrard Inlet and beautiful float houses. Enjoy this walk which has a mix of boardwalks, nature and urban trails. The 6K will only go to Mahon Park.
  5. Spirit Trail West – McKay Creek 6k &10k (rating 2B): Walk the Spirit Trail west of Lonsdale Quay along the scenic waterfront with beautiful floating homes and spectacular views of the water and city across the Burrard Inlet. Then, head north through several parks following McKay Creek, walking along Ravine Greenway and then to Mosquito Creek. Immerse yourself amongst the trees and the sound of water. Enjoy this walk with a mix of boardwalks, nature and urban trails.
