Sunday, April 28, 2024(1 event) – This is a wonderful easy, sometimes breezy, walk along the lower road of Dundarave, West Bay and Altamont neighborhoods. You will encounter beautiful scenery, huge cedars, lovely lavish gardens, quaint tucked-away beaches and architecturally-renowned mansions. Along the route, fascinating “Fun Facts for Free” are noted. (If interested in knowing a little bit more, a separate page will be offered by the host). There are some stairs, some small steps and just the right number of hills to make it interesting. If you like airplanes, history and exploring somewhere you probably have not walked before, then this walk is not to be missed. The very interesting Flight Path Park, which has an aeronautical theme, is located near the secluded historical village of Burkeville. Enjoy walking the Arbutus Greenway, Marpole neighbourhoods and along the extensive boardwalk beside the Fraser River, where salt and freshwater meet as the Fraser meets the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful views of the Fraser River from the boardwalks that cross restored tidal marshes and snake between stands of poplar and alder trees. Barges, boats and log booms on the river and the Vancouver Airport runways are just beyond. This part of the walk is the highlight and not to be missed. This walk includes 4 Tsawwassen Neighborhoods, First Nations land, and the largest blue heron rookery in B.C. The neighborhoods include: Seaside (built 2020), Tsawwassen Springs (built 2010 to 2020), Imperial Village (1990’s), Candlewyck (1970’S/80’s). The Tsatsu rookery is particularly active between February and May each year. This walk also features a small walkway adjacent to an organic farm and some bee hives. Check out the crops on offer this year (usually potatoes or cabbages) but beware of manure smells in May – it is “organic” after all! Note: There are two 5K routes. (i) Starts at the South Delta Recreation Centre - does not go to the rookery (ii) Register at the South Delta Recreation Centre, then drive to Pat Quinn's. Description: Walk along the picturesque South Arm Dyke of the Fraser River. Explore the historical site “London Farm” that tells the story of farming in Steveston from 1880 to 1930. We will walk along the Coal Harbour waterfront from the Convention Centre into Stanley Park where you will be welcomed by Lord Stanley. Walk through the Rose Garden. Then to the north side of Lost Lagoon. Check out the Rhododendron Garden and the Blue Heron Colony, one of the largest urban colony in North America. Pass English Bay and the Inukshuk. Finish with a heritage walk in the West End. We will then walk along several trails in the old growth forests where you will see some of the oldest trees in the park. Return via the Seawall along Coal Harbour. Walk along the Spirit Trail, then through Mosquito Creek Park to Edgemont Village, a quaint little area with one-of-a-kind retail stores and a vibrant community. You might feel like you are in a mountain resort as Grouse Mountain is not far away. Then down to a 1950’s cabin and pond where a number of shows, including the Virgin River series, were filmed. Next comes Murdo Frazer Pitch & Putt, Heywood Park, Pemberton Heights and back to Mosquito Creek Park. Don’t miss this walk! Lots to explore. This walk will go along the Seaside Greenway pass Coal Harbour to Canada Place, Gastown and then to Victory Square. Continue to BC Place Stadium, Seaside Greenway, the Roundhouse and back via Yaletown. Don’t miss this walk. It will take you to some parts of downtown not covered in the other walks. The Western loop goes through “village” of Dundarave, Memorial Park, Dundarave Park and along Centennial Seawalk. The Eastern loop goes through “villages” of Ambleside, Park Royal and along the edge of Ambleside Park. Enjoy great views of Vancouver harbour and downtown, the North Shore mountains and English Bay. Walking the seawall clockwise we are rewarded with views of Brockton Point Lighthouse, the Lady in a Wetsuit statue, Lions Gate Bridge, Siwash Rock, ships at anchor in the harbour, the Sylvia Hotel and the NEW Laughing Men statues. There are two 5K route options: (i) walk mostly on the east side of the Seawall and back via the Rose Garden (ii) walk on trails to Beaver Lake, the Aquarium and back via the Seawall. Come Walk With Us and follow part of the old railway route that has been converted to walking paths. We pass the very historic home of one of the original Steveston pioneers and then head back to the West Dyke. The variety of birds that you will get to see while walking on the dykes is amazing. Come Walk With Us in this peaceful northwest corner of Richmond. Starting from the Thompson Community Center we walk through residential neighbourhoods and trails passing through lush green marshlands. Upon reaching the dyke, we view the Strait of Georgia, the North Shore mountains and distant Gulf Islands peaks. Come Walk With Us and explore Minoru Park (very nice park) and some quiet residential neighbourhoods on our way to the Middle Arm Dyke system that protects the city of Richmond. This part of the dyke pathway is amazing, looking over to the airport, watching planes leave and arrive, very often getting to see row boats, dragon boats or sculls in the Fraser River, walking past the Richmond Oval, and the UBC Boathouse which is a fully floating facility.
