In general, a 5km walk can be finished in 1 hour and a 10km walk can be completed in 2 hours.

    April 2, 2024

    Come Walk With Us on part of the old railway route now converted to walking paths as we walk to the Middle Arm Dyke pathway. While walking on this dyke trail beside the Middle Arm of the Fraser River we get to watch many planes taking off and landing at the Vancouver Airport. As we continue, this Middle Arm Dyke path changes to the West Dyke path and if it is the right time of the year, you will see many herons, eagles and thousands of Snow Geese. Don’t miss this walk. This is one of 11 walks in our “Explore Richmond” series.

    Walk goes through residential areas and Memorial South Park. We will also walk through Mountain View Cemetery (“Where Vancouver Remembers”) - opened in 1886. Some famous Canadians are buried here. We will see the main part of the cemetery and the Jewish, Japanese and Chinese parts of the cemetery. For the 10K, there is an option to walk outside of the cemetery.

    Description: 5, 10k (Rating 2BThis walk goes along the southern part of the Arbutus Greenway, from 41st Ave to SW Marine Drive, passing by community gardens, and through interesting residential areas. Catch views of planes approaching or taking off from Vancouver Airport.

    See some of Vancouver's most iconic sights on this route. Starting in the downtown core, head towards the Seawall, passing the Inukshuk at English Bay in the West End and Sunset Beach Park. Travelling east, visit the heritage Canadian Pacific Railway Roundhouse and the Engine 374 Display Pavilion which houses Locomotive No. 374. Continue along the Seawall to Science World, the centre of Expo 86 and also a centrepiece for the 2010 Olympics. Turning back into the downtown core, we cross the Georgia Viaduct, slated for demolition in the near future. The 7K route (rating 2B) will only go to the Roundhouse & Yaletown.

    A walk in & around the historic village of Ladner, South Delta. This charming 115 year-old fishing village has it all - dykes, marinas, parks, sloughs & a very quaint, walkable, town centre. Route passes by Memorial Park, the Fraser River & South Arm marshes along residential streets. Discover why this charming little village is one of the most popular set locations for the Lower Mainland film industry.

    Walk by Jericho Garrison, Trimble Park and then into Pacific Spirit Regional Park. Continue along Spanish Banks, Locarno Beach and then into Jericho Beach Park. The 6k will only go to Locarno Beach and Jericho Beach Park

    We will go around Lost Lagoon and take a different trail to Prospect Point. On the way, you will see the iconic Hollow tree, a Vancouver Heritage. Do you know there is a softball field in Stanley Park? Then down to the Seawall to the south side of Beaver Lake and to the Rose Garden.

    There are two 5K route options: (i) walk mostly on the east side of the Seawall and back via the Rose Garden (ii) walk on trails to Beaver Lake, the Aquarium and back via the Seawall.

    Distance: 5/10k

    Start Location: Meet in the sitting area of Devonian Harbour Park, 1929 W Georgia St (NW corner of Denman & W Georgia - behind the bus stop).

    Steveston Rocks (WALKS)!!! Follow part of the old railway route that has been converted to walking paths. We pass the very historic home of one of the original Steveston pioneers and then head back to the West Dyke. The variety of birds that you will get to see while walking on the dykes is amazing. This walk ends by walking back through the village and along the boardwalk by the marina.  This is one of 11 walks in our “Explore Richmond” series.

    Squint Lake Park is located in the northeastern section of the city of Burnaby. It’s an interesting mixture of a suburban park and the original forested habitat in the area. The park contains trails bordered by forest and a creek that enters a small lake (Squint Lake).

    Walk is along Kitsilano Beach to Vanier Park and cross Burrard Street Bridge. Follow the Seawall to David Lam Park, then take the water taxi to Stamps Landing. Then continue to Granville Island back to Kitsilano Beach. Enjoy spectacular views from the bridge, the Seawall and the water taxi. The 6k will not cross Burrard Bridge but will go to Granville Island.

    BRING MONEY FOR THE WATER TAXI - Seniors-$2.25 each — under 65- $4.00 each

    Walk the Spirit Trail west of Lonsdale Quay along the scenic waterfront with beautiful floating homes and spectacular views of the water and city across the Burrard Inlet. Then, head north through several parks following McKay Creek, walking along Ravine Greenway and then to Mosquito Creek. Immerse yourself amongst the trees and the sound of water. Enjoy this walk with a mix of boardwalks, nature and urban trails.

    If taking the Seabus, the Waterfront Park Dock with the gazebo is located 2 blocks west. of the Lonsdale Quay Seabus. If driving, the gazebo/dock/pier is at the back of Waterfront Park in the 200 block of West Esplanade.

    This is a wonderful easy, sometimes breezy, walk along the lower road of Dundarave, West Bay and Altamont neighborhoods. You will encounter beautiful scenery, huge cedars, lovely lavish gardens, quaint tucked-away beaches and architecturally-renowned mansions. Along the route, fascinating “Fun Facts for Free” are noted. (If interested in knowing a little bit more, a separate page will be offered by the host). There are some stairs, some small steps and just the right number of hills to make it interesting.

    If you like airplanes, history and exploring somewhere you probably have not walked before, then this walk is not to be missed. The very interesting Flight Path Park, which has an aeronautical theme, is located near the secluded historical village of Burkeville. Many of the streets in Burkeville are named after airplane manufacturers. This is one of 11 walks in our “Explore Richmond” series.
